Arrogant Pricks

I debated a lot of different titles for this post before settling on the one that most succinctly summed up my reaction to today's reading of "the Constitution" by House Republicans. (Read the Slate article below to understand my quote marks.) What House Republicans left out when they read (parts of) America's founding document. - By Dahlia Lithwick - Slate Magazine Aside from their selective sampling of the Constitution, I'm sincerely impressed by the shear arrogance on display here. After kowtowing to G.W. Bush's abuse of the Constitution (oft-defended by the glib remark "the Constitution is not a suicide pact") it strikes me as more than a little disingenuous to have these bastards trot out a bowdlerized version of the document to put the world on notice that they, apparently, are the keepers of all that is "good" and "decent" in this country. (And I've got to note that it's taken less than 5 days of these bastard...

More Annoying Commercials

Another day, another batch of truly annoying commercials to subject myself to, every time I turn on the radio. There's a school of thought that argues that it doesn't matter if your commercial is annoying… that annoying can be a positive, since what really matters is that your commercial gets noticed, and annoying gets noticed. But these have got to go… Accuvue 1 day disposable contact lenses This one features an overly chipper couple, enthusing about their new 1-day disposable contact lenses. They're "often on the road, and glasses get in the way of working out," yadda, yadda, yadda. I visualize the epitome of the corporate marketing drone. At one point, the guy exclaims, "we're road warriors…" and all I can thing is, "Seriously? Did you really, un-ironically, refer to yourself as a 'road warrior'? What person, in real life, EVER refers to themselves as a road warrior?" And, more to the point, would you ever want to spend time with...

Things I'm Tired Of

This could end up a VERY long list, as I find myself less and less tolerant of stupid things seemingly every day. But you've gotta start somewhere, right? (And yes, I'm well aware that 'ending a sentence in a preposition' could well be on other peoples "tired of" lists, but "Things of which I am Tired" simply wasn't going to do it for me. But that's a discussion for a whole 'nother post.) There's an annoying trend I've noticed lately in radio advertising, which I 'affectionately' refer to as "idiot advertising". It's the kind of ad campaign where the 'spokesperson' or main character or what have you is obviously an idiot, and the real reply to every question he (inevitably it's a male asking the moronic questions) should be "you're an idiot. Hang up now and stop wasting my time." A recent airline ad featured a guy calling up to ask about the 'extra leg room' the airline offer...
