The gist of it is, this really was the point I was trying to make here (read the comments).
Spy Agencies Say Iraq War Fuels Terror
It just carries a bit more weight when it's coming from the people who really know what's going on there.
(Meanwhile, of course, Pollyanna is in full denial mode. Of course, the point isn't that Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism existed before 9/11. It's that what's going on in Iraq today is making it worse. And no amount of Bill Clinton blamestorming is going to change that unpleasant fact.)

I've read parts of the report. It makes no such claim (as the NY and LA Times thought it did) that we are worse off or that Bush made a mistake by going to Iraq. It actually concludes the opposite - that it was an astute move to go there. Of course, this says nothing about how bad we've screwed it up, but that's another story.
Just wanted to give you some 'spin alert'. Both papers will try to spin it, but they got faced on this one.
As for Clinton bashing or Clinton exploding (that was weird)...what is going on? I know it is mostly political posturing on both sides as the election nears. But, I have a real problem with all the attention being paid to what HAPPENED rather than what is HAPPENING. Are the idiot Dems falling for Rove strategy AGAIN??!
They are foolish to go down this path. The fact is, Clinton DID screw up. But, so did Bush. Big deal. No one thought it would be that bad, no one was wise enough to foresee what would happen. Ok...it's over. Move on.
The Dems could EASILY score points by focusing on Rumsfeld and how badly he has screwed up the Iraqi occupation. But, instead, they have been pulled into a debate over who was more to blame for 9/11!!
A month ago, I would have said the Dems are going to take back the house. But, no longer. Due to this terrible debate that makes them look bad (and Clinton looked like a bitter old man), and due to falling gas prices, they are losing ground fast.
Q
I thought the Clinton angle was something the Republicans pulled out of their ass to distract from the low poll results and the problems in Iraq. "It's not OUR fault... Clinton blew it!" Whether the Dems should give it any credence and reply to it is questionable at best and you're right, they should ignore the BS and focus on today.
Which leads me to the real problem, as you mention, of debating what happened 6 or 8 years ago instead of trying to figure out what to do today. Cut the crap, people, get back to work.
Oh yeah, I forgot, it's election season. All we get till November is posturing.
I don't know if the Repubs planned a year and a half ago to make the movie, have it make Clinton look bad, and release it before the election. They're not THAT smart, are they? More likely, they saw that Clinton got pissed over the movie and they ran with it.
Smoke and mirrors...
I loved the quote from one of the producers, who basically said "so the liberals are upset over our movie? Well, we have to put up with Michael Moore, so get over it." Talk about childish.
Actually, it was really good. Surprisingly tense thriller stuff. The show that aired did not make Clinton look that bad. But, as I said, he DID blow it. We all did.
Of course, I guess the key scene that was cut really suggested that Clinton blew it because of Lewinsky. A cheap shot at best. I'm glad they cut it.
