Oh well, for a more balanced take on the whole Pickering thing than you might have gotten from the PFAW site, here's the NY Times article about the nomination:

What gets me about this whole thing is the unmitigated arrogance of the appointment. It's one of the biggest problems with this administration—their arrogance… their conviction that they can do anything they damn well please and the people will follow. The unfortunate thing is that, for the most part, they've been right.
