First, things get crazy at work before the holidays. Then, I take a couple of weeks off and enjoy Christmas and New Years… next thing I know it's been more than a month since I last posted! damn. Guess I'll have to get back to it now. hmmm… where to start?
in my NOT so humble opinion
My rants, raves, comments and criticism—movies, games, politics or the weather. Whatever strikes me at the time.
Comments
My favorite film of 2006: Pan's Labyrinth.
TV? 24 starts this week! Unfortunately, so does American Idol.
Hobbies? The WoW expansion comes out Tuesday, and you have remained blissfully ignorant of we 8 million subscribers. That's applause worthy!
Politics? Who will run for Prez? Why should we care? All politicians become sell-outs. Look at Arnold. On second thougt, don't.
Q
I'm desperatley waiting to see Pan, Children of Men and will probably talk myself into seeing The Queen, simply because of all the reviews. And I know we'll be seeing Night at the Museum.
I've seen Eragon (which had the interesting effect of making me want to go home and find my Dragonriders of Pern novels) and The Fountain. I liked The Fountain, but I can understand why it didn't do well. Somehow, the word "elegiac" began running through my mind about 2/3 of the way through and I had to look it up when I got home to make sure it was the word I meant. It was. Beyond those two, I honestly can't remember what else I've seen in the past month. Sad.
I've managed to skip the whole American Idol thing (as a rule, not terribly interested in their musical choices, so after the first couple of episodes with all the rejects, I'm usually out). And never got started on 24, so each season I think about renting the first season, and never get around to it. I'm watching lots of TV, it seems, but the only one I can think of that I'm seeing every week are Bones and CSI. And usually Supernatural.
Hobbies… yeah, I've been dodging the WoW bullet, but every once in a while… Meanwhile, I keep thinking about checking out Guild Wars, since it encourages my anti-social nature. Meanwhile, I got a copy of Final Fantasy XII and have been suitably impressed by the decidedly dark opening and early gameplay. And I managed to swing an upgrade to a new GeForce 8800, so I'm SO ready for DX10 gaming. ; >
Politics… *sigh*
At the risk of sounding flippant, I can't help but think of the Prez's commitment of 20,000 more troops in Iraq as the equivalent of the guy in Vegas running to the ATM to pull out another $500 so he can win back the grand he's already lost.
I had to laugh at the Republican Representative I heard about last week, complaining because the Dems have shut the Republicans out of most of the debate about what bills are going to be brought to the floor in the first 100 days. Since the Democrats have been complaining that the Republicans have been doing the same damn thing for the past 12 years, it seems a bit disingenuous for this guy to be whining, but that's Washington for you. (And yes, I do hope that this is a short term bit of one-upmanship going on, and not to be the status quo for the Democrat leadership in the House.)
And the less said about Arnie, the better, probably. Did I hear him right that he wants to pass a law requiring everyone in California to have health insurance? Great idea, but who's footing the bill? I mean, I think everyone WANTS health insurance, but when it comes down to a choice between that and paying the rent and buying food, what are you gonna pick?
So, how's that for the quick recap?
; >
I'll stick with WoW and avoid the DX10 'advances' for a year or two. That should enable me to get a PC with the new interface - whatever that ends up being. I still have AGP, so I can't get a DX10 board anyhow...and PCI Express is soon gone.
But what do you mean, PCI Express is soon gone? That's the new interface! Is there a new option coming THIS fast? damnit.
Yes, there is a new one coming this year. Don't know what they're calling it.
Man, I'm getting in on that TAP deal if I can next time!
Like I said, TAP's a no-brainer for videocards, and anything else you're going to update that often. I just can't figure out how Comp USA benefits from it. But hey, that's not my problem!
(God, I just had this image of Chris reading these posts. Her brain's leaking out her ears at this point, I'm sure.)
That being said, I notice you do not mention the disaster your party is about to create with the Obama craze. Talk about dividing the party AGAIN. Seriously, I think Rove is behind it. No, I can't discuss his platform or anything at all---that is so reactionary me---all I know is that the democrats need to get behind one candidate who can actually win. I don't think he is the one. It would be fun though.
I can't get into any of the movies released during the holidays. Have you seen the pedigree of the guy responsible for Museum? I think I will skip that one.
Chris
Spare yourself Museum. For all the cute/amusing moments you might find, there's a mountain of bad storytelling, faux sincerity and just plain bad movie to slog through.
